It used to be that being a nerd or a geek was something that was used to separate you from others. These days, most folks openly revel in their collective nerdom, geekdom, etc. Things like cosplay, gaming, manga, and more are increasingly commonplace. So perhaps we aren’t surprised to see a merging of two previously outcast subcultures: the tattooed and the nerds/geeks. Of all the different fandoms willing to get the object of their obsession permanently etched onto their skin, few are as diverse in style as the Star Wars fans. To illustrate my point, here is a selection of some of the best Star Wars tattoos you’ll find in Richmond, VA.
Star Wars Tattoos in Richmond, VA
When it comes to a cultural touchstones, you’d be hard-pressed to find anything as pervasive as the Star Wars saga. So it’s no wonder that there’s some pretty amazing Star Wars tattoos in our city that were done by local Richmond tattoo artists. Take a minute and dig this selection (we couldn’t include them all, that would be too brutal on all you mobile users out there) and take note of the creativity and variety in styles.
Tattoos by Jess Versus
Jess Versus has a tendency to take things to the dark side when it comes to her art. Tentacle monster R2D2 is obviously no exception. Take note of that killer linework here.
In this piece you can clearly see which side of the argument the client comes down on- in case you’re having difficulty reading it, this tattoo reads “Han Shot First”. The use of Han Solo’s blaster, created in a neo-traditional tattoo style, gives this piece a sort of steam-punk feel. As far as Star Wars tattoos go, this one’s a classic.
Tattoos by Barham Williams
Never tell me the odds, and may the fourth be with you, always. Thanks @AnthonyRaposa for being an awesome client and letting me do one of my favorite tattoos! If only my 7 year old self could see me now @loosescrewtattoo #loosescrewtattoo #tattoo #tattoos #tattooart #tattoosnob #tattoocircle #tattooworkers #tattooartistmagazine #traditionaltattoos #neotraditionaltattoo #neotrad #starwars #hansolo #nevertellmetheodds #may4th #maythefourthbewithyou #theforce #rebels #dl44 #neotat #fkirons #stencilstuff #starwarstattoos #blackclawneedle #eternalink #waverly #rva #rvaart #rvatattoos
Barham Williams works out of Loose Screw Tattoo in Carytown and has a pretty sweet collection of nerdy tattoo art. This piece resembles Jess Versus’ Han Solo blaster tattoo, but features a well-loved Han Solo quote, “Never tell me the odds”.
How long did you think this post would go before we gave you a Darth Vader tattoo? Again, we award extra points for style and creativity. This piece is part of a flash sheet Williams designed that featured other Star Wars tattoos, as well as Nintendo themed tattoos. When you want sweet Star Wars tattoo but still want to keep it simple and stylish, a Darth Vader skull with lightsaber really does the trick.
Tattoos by Matt Brotka
Everyone loves a badass–and Star Wars has more than a few. Here, Matt Broka (Salvation Tattoo Gallery) delivers a Boba Fett tattoo to be proud of. More straightforward than stylized, this full color Boba Fett tattoo is spot on.
Some Star Wars fans are really committed– like this person who went all-in and got a full Star Wars sleeve. Featuring Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Emperor Palpatine, Boba Fett, and General Grievous (as well a Sarlacc pit, the Death Star, and a Tie Fighter) this massive tattoo is clearly dedicated to the Star Wars villains.
Tattoos by Geary Morrill
I had a swell time doing this zombie Ewok tattoo today. @sean_peters said it was a wicket-cool design:) #starwars#zombie#Ewok#tattooistartmag#tattooartistmagazine#cooltattoospost#inkedlifestyle#yestattoos#besttraditionaltattoos#traditionaltattoo#starwarstattoo#Eclecticarttattoo#sictatbro#serialkillerclean#michigantattoos#lawofattraction#love
And now for something a little different. Geary Morrill works at Unkindness Art alongside Chelsea Shoneck and Theresea Sharpe (the shop is pretty new, so you should definitely check them out). This piece takes the fan favorite Ewoks and casts them in a new light… As zombies. I mean, if you’re going to get an Ewok tattoo, why wouldn’t you go all out?
Rocked out this boba fett tattoo last night. thanks Cody! #eclecticarttattoo #sictatbro #starwars #superbtattoos #starwarstattoo #cooltattoospost #yestattoo #tattoospotlight #tattoooftheday #tattoosnob #tattoosociety #tattooistartmag#tattooartistmagazine#artcollective#prophetsandpoets#crazyytattoos #inkedculture #lawofattraction #love
Mandalorians are cool. Tattoos are cool. Might as well combine them, right? How about a badass blue helmed Mandalorian with a blue and gold lotus.
Tattoos by Tony Amundson
For those looking for a more traditional tattoo style, this Tony Amundson (True Tattoo) piece combines classic Star Wars icons such as the Death Star and the rebel blaster. It’s about as straightforward as Star Wars tattoos get.
Tattoos by Greg French
What do your tattoos say about you? In this case of this C3P0 tattoo, it says you’re a Star Wars fan… and probably also a neurotic worrier. Classic style from Greg French out of Heroes and Ghosts tattoo in Carytown.
